Essentra underscores commitment to Paraguay as its regional Latam manufacturing hub

09 May 2016

Essentra plc, the UK-listed global provider of essential components and solutions, was delighted to welcome Minister for Industry & Commerce, Gustavo Leite, and Governor of Alto Parana, Justo Zacarías Irún, to its c. 7,000m2 manufacturing facility in Cuidad Del Este, which has received investment of almost £1 million in the latest filter product and packaging equipment in the last two years alone.

Speaking at the event, Brett York, President - Essentra Americas, said the funding reinforces Essentra’s commitment to Paraguay as a manufacturing centre for Latin America in its entirety, with potential further significant investment as the company seeks to expand its product offering in this strategically important region.

“Essentra’s investment to date - which includes a doubling in the number of employees since 2013 - underscores our view of Paraguay as a compelling manufacturing location, with a reliable and accessible labour force and competitive input costs. As the company looks to extend the number of end-markets served and its geographic reach in Latin America, we place great value on certainty and transparency in terms of the business environment.

“Hence, we are contemplating a possible future investment of approximately £3 million to expand our Alto Parana facility to accommodate our Pipe Protection Technologies, Components and Porous Technologies activities, together with the necessary additional manufacturing equipment and headcount.”

Established in Paraguay since 2001, Essentra is the only global independent provider of filters and related solutions to the tobacco industry. In addition, the company is recognised as the leading manufacturer and supplier of pressure-sensitive tear tape to the consumer goods and retail sectors. Already serving multi-national customers in 15 countries in the region, Essentra’s objective is to remain at the forefront of the industries it serves, in terms of providing a comprehensive product offering, compelling value proposition and excellent service. The proposed expansion of the Paraguay facility would result in Essentra extending its reach beyond the tobacco, consumer goods and retail sectors into oil and gas, automotive and industrial – as well as enhance its proposition to the tobacco industry.

Essentra’s Paraguay site forms part of its global network of around 9,000 employees in 33 countries, with 53 principal manufacturing facilities, 64 sales and distribution operations and five research and development centres.
